Gowing and Hunt was formed as a partnership in 1976, at that time operating as plumbing and heating engineers from a small office in Little Downham near Ely.
By the early 1990s the focus of work had changed to mechanical installations and a planned expansion programme was formulated.
In 1998 Jo Gowing joined the company from Lloyds Bank, as office and accounts manager.
The company successfully developed the expansion programme and in 2002 became incorporated as a limited company. A few months later G&H moved into larger premises in the village of Witchford, still close to the beautiful cathedral city of Ely.
The move to larger premises allowed for the continued planned expansion, including the development of a dedicated Service and Maintenance department.
In 2004 Tim Gowing joined the company, after completing a degree course in contract management and quantity surveying, and gaining experience with both cost consultants and contractors.
G&H doubled the size of our premises in 2006, this allowed us to plan for an electrical department to complement our mechanical and service and maintenance departments.
Early in 2008 our first electrical manager was appointed; G&H are now able to offer mechanical, electrical and plumbing packages from design, to installation, through to service and planned maintenance.
The company is owned and run by the four directors, who are all members of the Gowing family. We are proud that we manage to maintain the "family feel" of our company whilst at the same time embracing developments in technology and business thinking.
G&H benefit from a loyal, well trained and skilled workforce, both office and site based, who are all encouraged to be proactive and take ownership of their projects. G&H believe this sense of responsibility and commitment leads to the highest standards and customer satisfaction.
